Community Based Parenting Education Group is a free community-based program provided by contract through the Hawaii State Department of Health. These groups provide a comfortable learning environment focusing on positive parenting approaches to enhance parent-child interactions and relationships. Parent participants will realize how much of their own values and belief systems contribute to their own style of parenting. Hawaiian values and beliefs are incorporated in the groups. The class will focus on the premise that parents and caregivers are truly their children’s first teachers, which is true Hawaiian value.

Caregivers Will Learn About:
Nurturing Skills, the use of community resources and services, importance of play in a child’s development, Growth and Development of children (0-10 years).

• Kamalama
• CSFEL

Who Could Attend?
Parents and Caregivers. These groups are not intended for families served by the child welfare services system, but open to those who would like to attend. This program is provided by Child & Family Service.

Goal:
The goal is to broaden parent-child interactions and to provide comprehensive parenting education and support groups utilizing an evidence-based/evidence-informed, parent-child interactive model statewide for purpose of promoting the five protective factors which have been shown to strengthen families.

Eligibility
Families with children from birth to ten years of age.
