Aloha Message from Howard Garval:
CFS is ALWAYS All About Family
Howard Garval, MSW
President & CEO
It is with mixed emotions that I retire as CFS President & CEO and embark on what many are calling the “encore career.”
When I was fortunate and humbled to be offered the position of CEO at CFS in 2006, I saw this as my last career move in human services. I am thrilled that this has been my last full-time leadership position before I move on to the next stage of my life. I can truly say it has been the most rewarding and satisfying of my over 40-year career in social work.
I love Hawai‘i and feel blessed that I had the opportunity to come here, live and work here, and experience the beauty of the islands and its people. I love the warmth and inclusiveness I have found here as well as the strong value placed on humility. This is and will remain my family.
Thanks to our generous and committed donors, staff and volunteers who strengthen families across our state, the organization is strong and well-positioned for the future. And the future of our family of CFS leadership is very bright as well.
I am proud to have launched a new initiative this year to build future leadership both within CFS and for our community called the CFS Leadership Academy. The Academy includes intensive training and leadership skills development for promising staff members whom will guide the future direction and success of CFS. The inaugural class graduated this summer and I conferred their degrees with great pride and honor.
Mahalo nui loa for your support of CFS. Together we have built a family-centered, full-service nonprofit that meets families where they are, works with families without judgment, and helps them to find the courage to change for the long term.
