Sexual Assault Support Service

Crisis Intervention, Counseling and Community Education

Service Description:

Sexual Assault victims may require immediate crisis counseling, emergency medical care and legal advocacy services.  Often a victim of sexual assault will need psychological care and support, which extends well beyond the crisis phase.

Recovery
Seeking help is the first step to recovery.  The specially trained professional counselors provide a comprehensive and sensitive approach to meeting the needs of sexual assault survivors and their families.

Crisis Intervention
24 hour crisis hotline: (808) 873-8624.
Emotional support during specialized medical examinations available 24 hours a day (must be done within 72 hours of the assault).

Legal Advocacy
Victim support and advocacy during contact with enforcement personnel and the legal system.  Advocacy for policies and laws to protect the rights of sexual assault survivors and community safety.

Counseling Services
Counseling for children and adults who have been recently sexually assaulted of abused.  Counseling for individuals sexually assaulted in the past, including adults sexually abused as children.  Counseling for family members and significant others.  Referral services for additional needs

Preventing Sexual Abuse
Community outreach and education in an effort to help prevent sexual abuse from occurring.

Eligibility:

Assistance is available to all, regardless of age or gender, and is not dependent on reporting the incident to the police.

Fees:

There are no fees charged for this program.

Funders:

Funding is provided through a grant from the County of Maui and Kapiolani Health.

Your Rights:

As a participant in a Child and Family Service program you have the following rights:
  • The right to a humane service environment
  • The right to services free from unlawful discrimination
  • The right to be involved in your own service planning
  • The right to confidentiality except when otherwise mandated by law
  • The right to services  which are least restrictive and most convenient
  • The right to file a complaint if these rights are infringed

To allow for staff to assist in receiving services, support and referral information.
