Board of DirectorsEach member of the Child & Family Service Board of Directors provides the leadership, wisdom, and support needed to fulfill our mission of strengthening families and fostering the healthy development of children. With new roles within and new faces welcomed, Child & Family Service is proud to present our 2009 Board of Directors.Robert Fujioka, Board Chair Vice Chairman and Chief Lending Officer at First Hawaiian Bank, Bob heads up the Commercial Banking Group (Commercial Real Estate, Corporate Hawai'i, Corporate National, First Hawaiian Leasing Co., and Trade Finance) and serves on the Senior Management Committee, as well as the board of Bishop Street Capital Management. Bob currently serves on the boards of the Japanese American National Museum, American Red Cross - Hawaii State Chapter, Boys & Girls Club of Hawai'i, the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai'i, HPH/Kapiolani Health Foundation, La Pietra - Hawai'i School for Girls, Hawai'i International Dyslexia Association (advisory), and the Marina West Community Association. Mr. Fujioka joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2002 and is a member of the Executive and Finance & Audit Committees. Return to the top Shelley B. Thompson, 1st Vice Chair Ms. Thompson is Vice Chair and Chief Fiduciary Officer at Bank of Hawaii. She also oversees Bank of Hawaii’s Investment Services Group, including its Private Client Services, which encompasses private banking, investment management, personal trust, foundation management, trust tax, real estate investment, as well as the Bank’s institutional client services, broker-dealer subsidiary, and retirement plan services. Prior to joining Bank of Hawaii in 2005, Shelley served as Executive Vice President and Director of Wealth Management. Before that, she was Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director with U.S. Trust’s Midwest Division. Prior to that, Shelley served as Executive Vice President and Group Head of Private Financial Services at U.S. Bancorp. A member of the State Bar of California and American Bar Association, Ms. Thompson holds a law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and a bachelor’s degree from University of California, Santa Barbara. Ms. Thompson is active in her community, and serves as a member of the University of San Diego’s Board of Trustees and is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Theatre. Shelley is also on the Board of the Hawaiian Humane Society and is a member of the Planned Giving Committee of the Aloha United Way. Ms. Thompson joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in January 2006. She is a member of the Development and Marketing Committee. Return to the top Kathy Inouye, 2nd Vice Chair Kathy Inouye is Chief Operating Officer for both Kobayashi Group and Makai Village Partnership. Kathy’s past and current board positions include the Stadium Authority, Board of Land and Natural Resources, the Land Use Research Foundation, Urban Land Institute, the Hawai’i Developers Council, Leeward Community College Business and Technology Advisory Board, and the Korean American Foundation. Ms. Inouye joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2001. In 2005, she accepted the 1st Vice Chair seat along with her position as Chair of the Networking Committee and Nominating Committee. She also is a member of the Intergenerational Learning Center and Board Governance Committees. Return to the top Brig. General Dwight M. Kealoha (USAF/Ret.), Secretary General Kealoha is the Chief Executive Officer of the Better Business Bureau of Hawaii. His background includes careers in the Air Force, in education with Kamehameha Schools and in business with Unity House and two small businesses. General Kealoha's community service involvement includes serving on the Board of Regents, Chaminade University and on the boards of directors for Multiple Sclerosis Society of Hawaii, Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor, and the Air Force Civilian Advisory Committee. He joined the Kualoa Ranch Board of Directors in 2008. General Kealoha joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2003. He is a member of the Board Governance Committee. Return to the top Mark Yamakawa, Treasurer Mr. Yamakawa is currently Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer for The Queen's Health Systems, Executive Vice President for The Queen's Medical Center, and President of the Queen Emma Land Company. He joined The Queen's Medical Center in 1985 and has held various positions throughout the organization. He serves on the Boards of Diagnostic Laboratory Services, Inc., CareResource Hawaii, UHA, Lanakila Pacific Foundation, and Waikiki Improvement Association. Mark joined the Child & Family Service Board in 2007. He is a member of the Finance and Audit Committee. Return to the top Stephanie Ackerman, Director Stephanie C. Ackerman is Vice President Public Policy and Communications for The Gas Company. Her responsibilities include directing and managing the energy company’s corporate communications, public relations and media affairs, government affairs, community outreach programs. Stephanie joined The Gas Company in August 2008. Prior to that, she was a senior vice president for Aloha Airlines. On the community front, Ackerman is a board member of Hawai'i Nature Center, and a member of Hawai'i Business Roundtable's Legislative Advisory Board Committee. She also serves on the Governor’s Energy Emergency Preparedness Advisory Group and the Hawaii Harbor User’s Group. Ms. Ackerman joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2003 and currently is a member of the Strategic Planning Task Force, and Development and Marketing Committee. Return to the top Carol Ai May, Director Vice President of 110-year old, family-owned City Mill Company, Ltd., Carol Ai May has worked in advertising/marketing and general management here and on the mainland. She and her brother shared the Retail Merchants of Hawaii Retailer of the Year in 2004. She has also received recognition from various organizations, including the YWCA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Small Business Hawaii. Carol graduated from Punahou and continued her education at Scripps College and Tufts University. Locally, Carol’s involvement included the 2002 Aloha United Way, Oahu campaign co-chair, and currently serves as Board Member with the Girl Scouts of Hawaii, Chamber of Commerce, UH Foundation and Retail Merchants of Hawai‘i. Ms. Ai May joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2001. She is a member of the Development and Marketing Committee. Return to the top John L. Arizumi, Director A registered engineer, John L. Arizumi is President/CEO of Carrier Hawai‘i. A product of local public schools and the University of Hawai‘i, John was a mechanical engineer and a nuclear engineer before joining Carrier Hawai‘i in 1975. Mr. Arizumi chose Child & Family Service as his first experience serving on a nonprofit community board in 2001. John is also a member of the CFS Board’s Finance and Audit and Board Governance Committees. Return to the top Christine Camp, Director Christine Camp has been in the real estate development and brokerage industry for over 25 years and has been an active part of the community through her participation on business and civic boards. She is the President and CEO of Avalon Group, a consortium of real estate development, brokerage, consulting and management companies. She currently sits on the boards of Central Pacific Financial Corp. the parent company of Central Pacific Bank, Hawaii Opera Theatre, Kapolei Chamber of Commerce and is the chairwoman of the Honolulu Police Commission. She was formerly the board chair for Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, officer of Hawaii Community Development Authority, chair of Urban Land Institute and President of Hawaii Developers Council. Ms. Camp joined the Child & Family Serviec board in 2009. Return to the top Kyle Chock, Director Executive Director of Pacific Resource Partnership (PRP), Kyle is new to our Board of Directors. Prior to joining PRP, he was Executive Assistant to the Chancellor of Honolulu Community College, serving as the liaison to the construction, automotive and aviation industries. During Kyle's short tenure at PRP, the organization has played a major role in launching the Construction Academy, a statewide workforce-development program for Department of Education high schools, and has been instrumental in the passage of Honolulu's mass transit system. In addition to serving on the CFS board, Kyle serves on the Board of Directors for the Lanakila Rehab Foundation and The Nature Conservancy's Corporate Council for the Environment. Kyle is currently a member of the Board Governance Committee. Return to the top David Haverly, Director Senior Vice President of A&B Properties, Inc. the real estate subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin Inc. For the past 10 years David has worked for A&B and currently oversees all of the company's income producing real estate. A member and past director of the Hawaii chapter of NAIOP. Mr. Haverly joined the Child and Family Service Board of Directors in 2010. Return to the top Stanley Hong, Director Stanley Hong currently serves as Chairman of the Trustees of the King William Charles Lunalilo Trust Estate. Stanley has applied his Business and Law degrees to a long and varied list of corporate, non-profit and governmental organizations. Mr. Hong has previously served as President of Waste Management of Hawaii, Inc., President and CEO of both the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and the Hawaii Visitors Bureau. He has also served as Vice President/Administration, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary for Theo H. Davies & Co. Ltd., and served as an executive in Hong Kong and Asia with Davies parent company, Jardine Matherson & Co. He has also been a board director at numerous companies. Mr. Hong’s community involvement includes being a trustee for The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, the East West Center Foundation and the St. Louis School. He also serves as a regent for Chaminade University of Honolulu and the Blue Planet Foundation. He formerly served on the PBS Hawaii Foundation, the State Board of Land and Natural Resources, as Chairman of the State Judicial Salary Commission, and on the U.S. Tourism and Travel Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce (Washington D.C.). Mr. Hong was welcomed to the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2004 and currently is Chair of the Board Governance Committee. Return to the top Tim Johns, Director Tim Johns is the Chief Operating Officer of the Estate of Samuel Mills Damon and the past Chairperson of the State Department of Land and Natural Resources. Active in a broad range of local organizations, Tim’s community involvements include the YMCA of Honolulu, the Hawai‘i Nature Center, the Rotary Club of Honolulu, Helping Hands Hawai‘i and the Diamond Head Theatre. Mr. Johns began his term on the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2004 and is a member of the Finance and Audit Committee and also is our CFS Board Representative to the Board of Directors of our subsidiary, Turning Points for Families. Return to the top Anton C. Krucky, Director Anton C. Krucky, President and CEO of Tissue Genesis, Inc., has decades of management experience, which includes product development, marketing, and sales in a global company, IBM. Prior to leaving IBM, he held several senior management positions including General Manager of Operations for IBM in the Pacific. Anton has consulted to and invested in small and emerging technology businesses, and has personally owned several small businesses. He serves on the boards of major corporations in the State of Hawaii, which includes Servco Pacific and Oceanic Time Warner, in addition to key non-profit medical and healthcare boards, which includes the University of Hawaii’s John A. Burns School of Medicine and the Pacific Health Research Institute. Anton supports numerous community organizations and is an established business leader in Hawai'i. Anton joined the Child & Family Services Board of Directors in 2007. Return to the top Robert K. Lindsey, Jr., Director Mr. Lindsey is currently a trustee for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Prior to that, he held various positions at Kamehameha Schools, including Director-Land Assets Division-Hawaii and Government Relations Officer. Before working at Kamehameha Schools, Robert worked as a National Park Service Park Ranger at Pu’u Kohola National Historic Site. Mr. Lindsey is active in his community, and serves on the board of The Kohala Center (VP Internal Affairs) and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement. He is also the Co-President of the Waimea Outdoor Circle, and is a member of the Waimea Nature Park and Waipi’o Valley Circle. He is also the director of Habitat for Humanity-West Hawaii. Robert joined the Child & Family Service Board in 2009. Return to the top Lori Lum, Director As Public Affairs Director at the law firm of Watanabe Ing & Komeiji LLP, Lori Lum provides strategic counseling and government affairs services for clients on public policy issues involving county councils, the state legislature and congress. Lori is a former hospitality industry executive. She currently serves on the boards of Aloha Festivals, the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawai'i and recently completed an 8 year term on the board of the Hawai'i Community Development Authority. Ms. Lum joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 1995. She recently completed over two years as Chair. She is a member of the Board Governance Committee. She is also Vice Chair of the Real Property Board. Return to the top Stephen MacMillan, Director As its Chief Executive Officer, Stephen MacMillan has been with James Campbell Company (formerly The Estate of James Campbell) since 1981. Born in Honolulu, Steve offers his time and expertise to support community well-being. A member of the Hawai‘i Business Roundtable. Serving on the Child & Family Service Board of Directors since 1998, Mr. MacMillan currently is a member of the Finance and Audit Committee and a member of the Real Property Board. Return to the top Gayle Marumoto, CFS Guild Chair With 24 years in the banking industry, Gayle is the American Savings Bank Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager at Salt Lake. She volunteers at various school non-profit organizations including Aliamanu Elementary School Community Council. Gayle has served as an active Child & Family Service Guild member since 2004 and is the current Guild Chair. She also serves on the Development and Marketing Committee. Return to the top Stephen B. Metter, Director Stephen B. Metter has been a leader in the Hawai'i commercial real estate development industry for more than 16 years. Mr. Metter is Chief Executive Officer and Principal of MW Group, Ltd. and MW Commercial Realty, Inc. MW Group, Ltd. is a diversified commercial real estate investment and development company. Mr. Metter is an active member in the community serving as a director for a variety of boards: Mc Donald’s Corporation Advisory Board, Plaza Club, Hawai'i Humane Society, Friends of the Hawai'i State Art Museum, Fort Street Business District, March of Dimes, Honolulu Culture and Arts District and is active in Young Presidents Organization (YPO). Mr. Metter received a Social Science degree from the University of California at Berkeley. The landlord of Child & Family Service’s Hilo office, Mr. Metter joined its Board of Directors in 2004, and serves on its Finance and Audit Committee and Real Property Board. Return to the top Terri Motosue, Director Terri Ann Motosue is Managing Partner at the law firm of Carlsmith Ball LLP, Hawaii’s oldest and largest law firm. Prior to joining Carlsmith, Terri worked in New York City at White & Case LLP and King & Spalding LLP. Terri currently serves as a volunteer at the Hawaii Heritage Center in Chinatown and is a member of the Board of Directors of The Hawaii Theatre. Ms. Motosue joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2010. Return to the top Maurice Myers, Director Mr. Myers is the former chairman, president and CEO of Waste Management. Prior to that, he held similar positions at Yellow Corporation, America West Airlines, Aloha Airgroup, as well as other businesses. Maurice currently serves on the boards of the Tesoro Corp, Hawaiian Electric Industries, and Oceanic Time Warner Cable. He also is enjoying his retirement with his wife, Jean, and 3 daughters. Mr. Myers joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2009. Return to the top Gina Pohlabel, Director Gina Pohlabel is the District Human Resources Manager for Target Stores in Hawaii. Her responsibilities include leading HR functions that impact 1200+ Team Members. In addition to her core HR role, she is a member of Target’s Senior Leadership Team in Hawaii and assists in overseeing operations and communications. Prior to joining Target in 2008, she was the District Manager for Banana Republic/Gap Inc Stores in Hawaii and San Francisco. Gina led numerous community outreach efforts on behalf of the company. Ms. Pohlabel joined Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2009. Return to the top Djuan Rivers, Director Djuan is a 20-year veteran of The Walt Disney Company. He has worked in various roles throughout the organization, preparing him well for his current position as Vice President of Disney Vacation Club and Resort Hawaii. As Walt Disney Parks and Resorts begins its resort development in Hawaii, Djuan will be responsible for leading the strategic business direction and operation of the up and coming destination. He will also serve as the interface between Resort Hawaii, the Hawaiian community and his internal partners around the world. Prior to his current role, Djuan served as the Vice President of New Business Development for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts where he worked on a broad range of new business initiatives to drive continued growth for the segment. Additionally, he has served as the Vice President and General Manager for the Downtown Disney area at the Walt Disney World Resort where he oversaw the resort’s premiere retail, dining and entertainment district. He was also the General Manager of Operations for the Disney Reservation Center, a 2,000 seat multi-site contact center. Mr. Rivers has always valued his commitment to the community. He has volunteered through Disney’s Reading Together program and the Orange County School system as a mentor for the COMPACT program, working with at-risk students from Dr. Phillips High School. He was also nominated as the Walt Disney World representative for the YMCA Black Achievers program in 1998, where he still participates as a member of the Board of Directors and served as the Executive Champion for Walt Disney World Resort’s VoluntEAR program. Djuan brings the same boundless energy he applies in his work to his personal life. Djuan is a native Floridian. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and is a graduate of the Executive Management Program at the Crummer School of Business at Rollins College. Mr. Rivers joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2009. Return to the top Tim Schools, Director Timothy Schools was promoted to president from senior executive vice president and chief operating officer in January 2008. He is responsible for overseeing all operations of the bank, including the implementation of the strategic plan. Prior to joining American Savings Bank, Tim worked for The South Financial Group in Greenville, the largest publicly traded holding company headquartered in South Carolina, where he most recently served as executive vice president, chief financial officer. Schools' experience also includes serving as senior vice president, strategic planning with National Commerce Financial in Memphis, Tennessee, vice president, investor relations with SouthTrust in Birmingham, Alabama, and previously held positions within the energy industry at Sonat in Alabama and Price Waterhouse in Texas. His community service most recently included serving on the board of the Community Foundation of Greenville. He earned a Master's in Business Administration from Emory University in Georgia and graduated magna cum laude with a BBA in Information and Decision Science from James Madison University in Virginia. Tim joined the Child & Family Services Board of Directors in 2008. Mr. Schools is currently in a two year term that will keep him on our board till 2010, and serves as the Chair of its Finance & Audit Board. Return to the top Joanie Shibuya, Director As an Investment Manager, Joanie Shibuya is responsible for overseeing the investment programs of HMSA’s insurance reserve funds and its subsidiaries. Joanie has been an investment manager with HMSA since March, 1992 and a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch in Honolulu the 10 years prior. Joanie currently serves on the board of directors for the HMSA Employees Federal Credit Union and is a member of the Outrigger Canoe Club finance committee. Ms. Shibuya joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 1996, and currently sits on the Finance and Audit Committee. Return to the top Jonathan Steiner, Director Jonathan Steiner is currently a partner with McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon LLP. He deals with General Civil Litigation, Insurance Bad Faith Defense, and Bankruptcy Litigation. Before McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon LLP, Jonathan worked at Ashford & Wriston. Mr. Steiner is active in the community, and currently serves on the board for Hawaii International Child and Lyons Arboretum Association. Mr. Steiner joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2010. Return to the top Earl C. Stoner, Director Clarence Earl Stoner, Jr. Grew up in Southern California, attended high school in Laguna Beach and University of California Los Angeles, moved to Hawaii in 1959 and was married the next year to Sandra Osorio. After working in the construction industry for several years, Earl was employed by AMFAC, Inc. in 1965 and worked with them until about 1977 during which time he headed AMFAC’s Real Property Division. A permanent resident of Maui since 1974, Earl has headed S & F Land Company, Inc. a wholly owned construction and development company with present land holdings on Maui and the island of Hawaii. Non-profit involvement has included service on the board of trustees for Seabury Hall and the Maui Family YMCA. He is presently a director of the Friends of the Cancer Research Center of the University of Hawaii. Earl joined the Child & Family Services Board of Directors in 2008. He is currently in a two year term that will keep him with our board till 2010. He serves on the Development & Marketing Committee. Return to the top Rann Watumull, Director Mr. Watumull is the Co-founder and Executive of Hawaii Film Partners (HPF). He previously founded Natural Resources, Inc., a specialty contractor and manufacturer, and also created the Family Wealth Management Department at the Bank of Hawaii where he spent 13 years as the Family Wealth Management Department Manager. He serves as President of the Board of River of Life Mission, Director of the Watumull Foundation, Director of The Dolphin Institute, has coached numerous youth sports team and has assisted in various other community service activities. Mr. Watumull joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2007. He is a member of the Board Governance Committee. Return to the top Colleen Wong, Director Ms. Wong has served as the General Counsel, Vice President of Legal Services for Kamehameha Schools since February 2000. At Kamehameha Schools, she specializes in school and education law, business and tax planning, corporate governance and heads an in-house legal department of 22 staff members. She led the Schools’ legal defense team responsible for the successful decision by the Ninth Circuit En Banc Panel in Doe vs. Kamehameha Schools, which upheld the admissions preference for Native Hawaiians as a valid remedy for the lingering effects of past deprivation and oppression of Native Hawaiians. She served as Acting CEO of Kamehameha Schools from May 2003 for approximately 9 months. Colleen received a B.A. in economics from Pomona College in 1979, a J.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Santa Clara in 1982, where she graduated on the Dean’s List. Colleen then joined the Honolulu law firm of Kobayashi, Watanabe, Sugita & Kawashima, practicing in a variety of areas including estate and business planning and real property. She has served as president of the Corporate Counsel Section, president of the Labor and Employment Law Section and director of the Real Property and Financial Services Section, of the Hawai`i State Bar Association. She is licensed to practice before all courts in Hawai`i, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. She is actively involved on many nonprofit Boards, including the Native Hawaiian Bar Association, Hawai`i Women’s Legal Foundation, The Kahiau Foundation, Girl Scouts of Hawaii, Planned Parenthood of Hawaii and The Junior League of Honolulu. Colleen joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2009. Return to the top Neal Yokota, Director The President and Chief Executive Officer of Stryker, Weiner & Yokota Public Relations, Inc., Neal is a seasoned public relations professional with a long and prestigious client list in Hawai‘i. Clients include: AIG Hawai‘i Insurance, The Hawaii Tourism Authority, The James Campbell Company, Ala Moana Center and the Oahu Visitors Bureau. Active in community organizations, Neal serves on the Boards of Helping Hands Hawaii, the Honolulu Firefighters Foundation and the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. Mr. Yokota joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2002. He is on the Development and Marketing Committee. Return to the top Hoyt Zia, Director Hoyt Zia is the newly-appointed Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Hawaiian Airlines, Inc. Hoyt previously served as Publisher for the Hawai'i Business Magazine. Hoyt serves on the boards of several other nonprofit, community organizations, including the Hawai'i Institute for Public Affairs, and the Hawai'i Leadership Council for the American Diabetes Association, the Pacific Asian Affairs Council, the Lanakila Rehabilitation Center, and the UH University-Community Partnership Committee. Mr. Zia joined the Child & Family Service Board of Directors in 2002 and in 2005-2006 was Chair of the Search Committee. Mr. Zia is currently Chair of the Board's Strategic Planning Task Force and the Development and Marketing Committee. Return to the top |
